Case Study 2 - The Story of Ali Shah
Ali Shah has the responsibility of looking after his wife and children and his elderly mother as his father has passed away, a total of five people in the family.
Ali Shah lives with his family in a town called Gujanwala, which has a population of around 40,000 people. It is just like any normal town in Pakistan with basic infrastructure and very limited employment opportunities.
Ali Shah has been sponsored by MGR since 2006, he has been helped through college and university where he successfully completed his Bachelor of Commerce Degree and is now studying part time with the help of MGR, works part time to supplement his late father’s pension in order to make ends meet. He is studying for an MBA at Lahore with the help of MGR and also receives a cash supplement.
Ali Shah due to family pressure was married during his studies for which MGR played a vital role. During the week he is in Lahore studying in the evening, working part time in the morning as well as all the work that goes around his MBA. On the weekends he visits his family and spends quality time with them. Unfortunately due to all the pressure he is under at the moment he does not have much of a social life, but once he has completed his Masters he will stand a good chance to get a great career off the ground to make his and his family’s life easier.
MGR’s myOrphan project gives people like Ali Shah a real chance of achieving something good in their life and the commitment shown by him is immense. With the continued support of MGR’s donor he will have his dream fulfilled and complete his MBA and be in a position to help others.
